Newspapers: The Tribune Co., publisher of the Chicago Tribune, reported first-quarter net income of $21.1 million, off 37% from a year ago. Revenue was $468 million, off 20%. Washington Post earnings plunged 65% to $13.6 million. Revenue decreased 7% to $317.1 million. The newspaper industry as a whole has been suffering from a sharp drop in advertising because of the slumping economy.
