Gunmen firing from two cars Tuesday shot and killed two policemen guarding a business run by the father-in-law of President Alberto Fujimori, police said.

Two of the assailants were wounded by other officers and captured, police said.

According to the police account, the attackers, suspected members of the ultra-left Shining Path guerrilla organization, fired at policemen in a patrol car who were guarding the tire shop of Juan Igushi, Fujimori’s father-in-law.

About eight gunmen in two vehicles drove up on both sides of the patrol car at 7 a.m. and opened fire, killing Sgt. Tomas Imantaya Yabar and Cpl. Desiderio Valenzuela Cuba, police said.
