Deputies Kill Man as He Holds Hostages in Home
A 25-year-old West Covina man was fatally shot by sheriff’s deputies as he briefly held a woman and her two children hostage in her Glendora home.
A coroner’s spokesman identified the man as Charles W. Amstone. The 33-year-old woman, her 8-year-old son and 2-year-old daughter were not injured. Their names were not released and deputies said they did not know if the woman knew her assailant.
Deputy Gabe Ramirez said deputies went to the woman’s home on Linfield Street after she called 911 late Wednesday night. Amstone pretended to have a gun and threatened to kill the woman, Ramirez said. After he pulled her into a bathroom, deputies kicked down the door and shot Amstone, he said. No gun was found.
