Judge Accepts No-Contest Plea From Matzo Maker: The nation’s leading matzo maker said it conspired to fix prices of Passover matzo, a staple on the table of Jews worldwide during one of their highest holidays. B. Manischewitz Co. entered a no-contest plea to a single charge of fixing prices on the flat, unleavened bread. Although a no-contest plea is technically not an admission of wrongdoing, Manischewitz attorney Justin Walder told U.S. District Judge Harold Ackerman that the company was aware that it was in effect admitting to the charge by entering the plea. Manischewitz could be fined up to $1 million, or it could face fines either two times the losses inflicted upon consumers or the gains won by the company, whichever is greatest.
