Share

The FBI is searching for a robber who stole an undisclosed amount of money from the Home Federal Bank branch at 31922 Camino Capistrano Wednesday.

The robber approached a teller shortly before 11 a.m., first asking for change, then handing over a note asking for “all your 50s and 100s,” said Fred Reagan, an FBI spokesman.

“He stuck his fist in his jacket pocket to simulate a gun and verbally demanded the money as well,” Reagan said.

The man was described as being between 30 and 35 years old; 5 feet, 8 inches tall; weighing about 160 pounds, and having brown hair. He was said to be wearing a light blue jacket, sunglasses and a baseball cap.

Bank officials said that shortly before the robbery, the man came into the building and asked for directions to the restroom. He was directed to a nearby public facility.

“We’re calling him the ‘John Bandit,’ ” Reagan said.

The thief fled on foot. Investigators do not know whether he then got into a vehicle.
