Comets Win to Even Series With Crunch

David Doyle scored three goals as the Kansas City Comets beat the Cleveland Crunch, 8-6, Wednesday night to deadlock the MSL Eastern Division finals at 3-3.

The seventh and deciding game of the series will be played Saturday night at the Coliseum. The winner will play the Sockers in the championship series, which begins May 10, at the Sports Arena. Tickets for Games 1 and 2 are on sale.

Doyle had two goals in the first quarter, which ended with the teams tied, 2-2, and one in the third to tie it, 3-3.

Kim Roentved took a pass from Carl Valentine in front of the Cleveland goal and shot it past goalkeeper P.J. Johns to put the Comets ahead for the first time with 4:42 remaining in the game.

Kevin Hundelt scored two goals and Iain Fraser and Jan Goossens scored one apiece for the Comets. Goossens also collected three assists.

Hector Marinaro had four goals for Cleveland, giving him 11 in the series.

Kansas City played the game without Newcomer of the Year, Paul Peschisolido, who left the team Tuesday for the Canadian Olympic team.
