He Appreciates the Joy Patterson Never Had

Share

I appreciated reading Earl Gustkey’s melancholy, albeit exceedingly well-written article on Leon Patterson (April 30).

I graduated from Taft Union High in 1969. While growing up, I heard about Leon Patterson and knew vaguely he had met an early demise, but I knew none of the details.

The next time I get upset at my parents or think life has not treated me well, I will reread this article. I will again realize the blessing of having parents who have been there when I needed them and never got drunk and beat me. Once more I will appreciate the joy Leon Patterson never felt of recalling all of the good times I have had during the 22 years since I graduated from Taft High.
