Billboards Praise Work of Police Bicycle Patrol
Ten billboards are going up in Hollywood to let residents know that officers pedaling bicycles along the boulevard are cutting down on crime.
The billboards, which show the slogan, “We’re Rolling” superimposed over two bicycle wheels, were unveiled at a news conference by City Councilman Michael Woo and Hollywood Division Capt. John Higgins. Woo donated $3,000 last September to begin the patrols, and Hollywood merchants have added another $20,000 to make sure the officers on bikes keep riding.
Higgins said 10 officers who ride bikes along Hollywood Boulevard from early morning until late at night seem to blend in with the eclectic crowd, using their mobility to curtail crime problems such as car break-ins, street robberies and purse-snatchers.
