Jury Votes Death Penalty for 1988 Rape, Murder

A Pasadena Superior Court jury Tuesday recommended the death penalty for a man who kidnaped, raped, robbed and killed a 26-year-old woman three years ago. The jury that convicted Ronald Anthony, 21, of the murder of Lois Haro returned its decision after three days of deliberations. Anthony was convicted on April 11.

Deputy Dist. Atty. Walt Lewis said Haro was discovered near the Rose Bowl on Oct. 18, 1988. She had been shot once in the head, and was still breathing when found, but died a short time later at a local hospital.

The prosecutor said Haro had been abducted from the Pasadena Mall and robbed and raped at gunpoint. Jones shot her while she was on her knees and apparently begging for her life, Lewis said.
