California IN BRIEF : SAN JOSE : Letter Threatens Gang Investigators
State gang investigators said they are taking “very seriously” a letter threatening revenge for the killing of three Vietnamese gunmen who held more than 40 people hostage in a Sacramento electronics store last month. The typed letter, signed by the “Brothers of Dragons,” cited the Sacramento shootout and said “The Brothers of Dragons have decided in a meeting a lesson will be made.” It named five detectives in Los Angeles, Monterey Park, Westminister, San Jose and Sacramento as targets. All five officers specialize in investigations of Asian gangs, but none was involved in the Sacramento incident. The letter was received by the San Jose Mercury News last week and turned over to state authorities, who said the author’s evident knowledge of individual investigators and intriguing references to known Vietnamese gang language made it disturbingly serious.
