In response to “Telephone Bugs Ignite Mexico Scandal” (Part A, April 20):

Mexico’s General Attorney’s Office (GAO) is already investigating in-depth the formal complaint presented on April 16 by the National Commission on Human Rights (CNDH), about the alleged bugging of its offices and wiretapping of some of its telephone lines.

Furthermore, in order to guarantee the objectivity of the investigation, the GAO and the CNDH have agreed to create a joint special committee formed by four experts, two appointed independently by the CNDH and two by the GAO, who will present a report as soon as possible. Anyone found responsible for this wrongful action will be severely punished according to law.
