Ireland Names New Ambassador to U.S.

DUBLIN, Ireland — Dermot Gallagher, 46, is replacing Padraic MacKernan as Irish ambassador to the United States, the government announced Saturday.
Gallagher, assistant secretary in the Anglo-Irish division of the Department of Foreign Affairs since 1987, has served at the Irish Consulate in San Francisco and as ambassador to Nigeria.
