Third Firm Joins in Chip Merger: Gazelle Microcircuits, a Santa Clara vendor of gallium arsenide integrated circuits, has joined in the previously announced merger of gallium arsenide chip firms Gigabit Logic and Triquint Semiconductor. The merger is expected to be completed by the end of May. The new entity--to be called Triquint--will have revenue of $40 million annually. Gallium arsenide chips operate much faster than traditional silicon chips, but they are difficult to produce and have yet to gain widespread acceptance.
