West Covina : Larger Additions OKd

Share

The City Council on Monday unanimously approved expanded size limits for additions to single-family homes.

The new law replaces a temporary ordinance imposed last November that limited the size of room additions to 50% of the total existing floor area.

Effective June 12, the ordinance will allow additions up to 4,000 square feet, depending on lot size; will limit house sizes to two stories or 25 feet, and will require front- and side-yard setbacks for second-story additions.

The ordinance was created by the Planning Commission to stop “mansionization”--the tearing down or remodeling of houses to replace them with larger ones--and to make new homes compatible with neighboring homes.
