Children’s Hospital of Orange County is trying to ease things for preschool-age patients by videotaping mothers reading stories aloud and playing the tapes when mom can’t be bedside. . . . Santa Ana therapist Karyn M. Sandburg is studying the effect of the 25-minute videotapes. She says one boy “was sort of whimpering for his mother,” who was at home napping. “The nurses just popped in the tape, and he calmed down.”
