Nation IN BRIEF : NEW HAMPSHIRE : Draft Copies of Constitution Found
From Times Staff and Wire Reports
Draft copies of the U.S. Constitution with notes in the margin by one of its signers were found in a Boston bank vault, a historical society said. The papers belonged to Nicholas Gilman Jr., a 1787 Constitutional Convention delegate who was senior deputy adjutant general to George Washington and became a U.S. senator. A box of his papers was put in the vault by the Society of the Cincinnati, descendants of Revolutionary War officers, which took over Gilman’s Exeter, N.H., house around 1900.
