From Times Staff and Wire Reports

Queen Elizabeth II, the first British monarch to set foot on Texas soil, visited the Alamo at San Antonio to see where defenders died in the famous battle against Mexican forces. The queen and her husband, Prince Philip, then toured San Antonio’s River Walk by barge. They were cheered by hundreds of flag-waving people waiting outside the Alamo and cheered again by hundreds along the river. After the two-hour stop in San Antonio, the royal couple went to Dallas.
