HANOI —
Danielle Mitterrand, the wife of the French president, has been prevented from meeting a recently jailed woman dissident in Vietnam, an official said Friday.
Mitterrand had asked to meet well-known novelist Duong Thu Huong, who was arrested April 14 after she was accused of sending documents abroad, damaging national security.
Mitterrand is heading an eight-member team from France-Libertes, a private human-rights organization.
