Thomas Greene; Led D.A.’s Fraud Investigation Unit
Thomas (Ike) Greene, 57, former head of the Los Angeles County district attorney’s Welfare Fraud Investigation Unit. Greene, who recently retired as a lieutenant, was the first special investigator assigned to the prosecutor’s Career Criminal Unit and among the first blacks to head sections in the district attorney’s office. While heading the welfare unit in 1987, he initiated the “welfare fathers” sweeps, forcing divorced fathers to pay child support.
