WORLD IN BRIEF : CUBA : U.S. Acts to Block Atom Program Help

The United States, responding to fears about a Soviet-made nuclear power plant under construction in Cuba, urged other nations to give Havana no help in its nuclear energy program other than to enhance safety. State Department spokesman Richard Boucher said any cooperation with Havana should be in coordination with the International Atomic Energy Agency and should include visits by international and regional specialists. The Cuban nuclear program is arousing growing fears in nearby Florida.
