World IN BRIEF : GERMANY : Soviets Reportedly Hid Chemical Arms

The Soviet Union has hidden stocks of nuclear and chemical weapons in the former East Germany, some of which it dares not withdraw for fear of a serious accident, intelligence sources said. Moscow has long denied that any such weapons were stationed there. But tight security and the nervous reaction of a Soviet sentry who shot and wounded a German army major on a surveillance mission at a Soviet base in April added to Bonn’s suspicions, a source said.
