Santa Monica : Rent Control May Cost Less

Share

A decrease in expected Rent Control Board expenditures for 1991-1992 has resulted in a recommendation to reduce the annual registration fees paid by landlords for each rental unit from $12 to $11.

Rent board administrator Mary Ann Yurkonis said administrative and workers’ compensation costs have decreased and a new mediation process to resolve complaints of excess rent has resulted in significant savings.

“I’m pleased that at a time when government costs tend to be on the rise, we are able to lower our costs without diminishing services,” said Dolores Press, who chairs the board.

The board will hold a public hearing on the budget, the registration fee and the annual general rent adjustment on June 13.
