NEWPORT BEACH : Proposed Housing Worries Residents

Share

A proposed housing project in the Harbor View area has raised concerns among residents over the effect of an influx of new residents on community facilities.

Tom Redwitz, vice president of land developing for the Irvine Co., said the firm is negotiating with Manning Construction Co. on the sale of a 76-acre lot. Manning Construction has informed area residents that it plans to build 15 homes on the property, but Redwitz said construction plans will not be ready for presentation to city officials for several months.

The site is west of Newport Hills Drive West and bounded by MacArthur Boulevard, Ford Road and San Miguel Drive.

Mitch Brown, president of the Newport Hills Community Assn. board, said the association is concerned about the financial impact new residents might cause on community recreation facilities.

“We are responsible for the pool, the clubhouse and all the common areas within the community,” he said. “Right now, the focus is the effect of the new residents on the community,” such as increased maintenance and community facility costs.
