SANTA ANA : Trustee to Resign From College Board

Share

Rodolfo Montejano, a 20-year member of the Rancho Santiago College Board of Trustees, announced Friday that he will resign from the board in September.

Montejano made public his plans to move to Indiana last October when he resigned from the board of the Santiago Club, a local nonprofit business league that he founded. But since that time, he had been vague about exactly when he would be stepping down from the college board.

Montejano, 52, said his family will move to Indiana next month, but he will stay behind to tie up business at his Santa Ana law firm and participate in the selection of a new chancellor to replace Robert D. Jensen, who is leaving the college district at the end of the month. He said he also wants to take part in the approval of next year’s college budget, which will be ratified this summer.

Montejano has diabetes and has routinely arrived more than an hour late to the college board’s twice-monthly meetings in recent months. He said he must take frequent breaks throughout the lengthy meetings because of a strict eating schedule.

“Even if I weren’t planning to relocate, I still wouldn’t be able to participate the way I would like to with the diabetic condition,” he said.

Montejano has served on the board since 1967 when it was part of the Santa Ana Unified School District. He is a charter member of the college board, along with current members John Dowden and Carol Enos.

“I really have fulfilled everything that I wanted to do,” Montejano said. “It’s time to move on.”
