NATION IN BRIEF : SOUTH CAROLINA : Judge Found Guilty of Bribery Charges
A federal jury in Columbia, S.C., found James (Tee) Ferguson, a state judge, guilty of one count of conspiracy to violate the Hobbs Act, a federal anti-corruption law, and two counts of violating the act. According to testimony and videotapes shown by the federal government, Ferguson took a $2,000 payment March 29, 1990. He was given another $1,000 on May 9, 1990, by lobbyist Ron Cobb, who was working undercover for the FBI. Ferguson, a former state representative, is one of 17 current or former lawmakers charged in the federal probe of corruption.
