Dimmer’s Signal May Disturb Some People

Share

I think your readers would be well advised to know that there is considerable controversy within environmental indoor health circles regarding possible bioelectric interferences arising from dimmer switches.

Many of these devices generate an electrical disturbance in the form of radio-frequency interference. The transmission of this “disturbed signal” can be visualized on an oscilloscope when many of these dimmers are turned on. Also using an AM radio tuned off-station (at the lowest end of the dial is best) will demonstrate audibly this interference in the form of an obnoxious buzzing hum.

To my knowledge there is no hard scientific proof this signal is biologically upsetting; however, much anecdotal history exists indicating that to many sensitive persons, the usage of some dimmers in the home’s circuitry seems to generate negative physiological effects.

Personally, I feel sensitive persons are best erring on the side of caution, and should either minimize or eliminate their usage. I feel “wired” when around most systems with dimmers turned on. Others of my acquaintance share the same complaint.

I think we are still in the dark ages regarding our physiological knowledge related to the human response to common and industrial electrical gadgetry.
