Nation IN BRIEF : NEW YORK : 8,000 Municipal Workers Laid Off
Nearly 8,000 New York City employees are being laid off this week as the city struggles to close a $3.5-billion budget deficit. The layoffs, effective June 28, cover most city agencies, including parks, cultural affairs, sanitation and health. Mayor David N.
