R.P.V. Housing Plans Cause Congestion Woes

Share

I am very concerned about the housing developments that seem to be popping up wherever I turn in Rancho Palos Verdes. The huge Wallace Ranch development of 82 units off Highridge Road is in the finishing stage. The Kajiima project on Crest Road near Monaco with 76 lots is about to be approved. The Marafuji (97 homes) project at the bottom of Hawthorne Boulevard is in the planning stage.

Then we have the 450-room hotel at the former Marineland site in the approval process. The A & H housing development of 43 homes on Palos Verdes Drive South is being built now. The Northrop land on Crest Road will probably be sold for residences. The Hon Zuckerman residential development off Palos Verdes Drive South is before the planning commission (over 116 homes are planned).

All of these developments add up to greatly increased traffic for the peninsula. Hawthorne Boulevard is becoming very congested. Anyone who travels to Los Angeles on Palos Verdes Drive North knows how busy that street is now. Are we about to lose our semi-rural atmosphere in Rancho Palos Verdes? Are we losing the peace and tranquility of our beloved peninsula?

We need City Council members who will vote to lower the scope of the future developments. We cannot deny property owners their right to build. But the Rancho Palos Verdes City Council can cut down the number of homes or lots. The council could vote for a smaller hotel, as the Rancho Palos Verdes planning staff recommended.

Let’s save our community while we can!
