Sir Isaac Wolfson; Ran Europe’s Largest Mail-Order Firm
Sir Isaac Wolfson, 93, a Russian-Jewish immigrant’s son who became one of Britain’s leading businessmen and philanthropists. Wolfson was president of Great Universal Stores, Europe’s biggest mail-order company and Britain’s fifth-largest retailer. The Wolfson Foundation he founded to advance health, education and youth activities has made donations exceeding $68 million. Queen Elizabeth II made Wolfson a baronet in 1962. On Sunday in London.
