TUSTIN : Council Members Vote Pay Increase
- Share via
City Council members approved $60-a-month pay raises for themselves this week despite objections from Councilmen Jim Potts and Earl J. Prescott.
The council voted 3 to 2 this week to give final approval to an ordinance that will increase each member’s monthly pay to $500. The increase will take effect next April, after citywide elections are held.
Prescott had said earlier that he does not think politicians should set their own salaries. But under state law, the city has the right to raise council compensation when the city’s population rises, according to City Manager William A. Huston.
