Bank South Corp. Chairman and Chief Executive Robert P. Guyton resigned, two months after shareholders complained loudly about the bank’s losses.

The Atlanta bank’s directors named John C. Wilson interim chief executive, pending selection of a permanent successor.

Bank South also appointed Lynn H. Johnston acting chairman. Johnston is also chairman and CEO of Life Insurance Co. of Georgia.
