Bid to Recall Mayor Fails to Qualify for Ballot

Share

A petition drive by activists to recall West Hollywood Mayor John Heilman did not qualify for the ballot, city officials said Monday.

Members of the Committee to Recall John Heilman needed the signatures of 4,202 registered voters to qualify for a recall referendum for the ballot. Although the group submitted 4,428 petitions, only 3,572 were found to be valid, Deputy City Clerk Vivian Vukojevich said.

Recall proponents were not immediately available for comment. They have said that they were seeking Heilman’s ouster because he is the only member of the City Council to have served since incorporation seven years ago and because he favors increased development.
