Frozen Treat Helps Dieting

Share

For dessert-loving dieters, there’s now a line of ice cream alternatives called Ultra Slim Fast Frozen Delight. Included are hard packs of “ice cream,” stick bars and sandwiches in various flavors made with skim milk and other ingredients. They’re low-fat, low-cholesterol and fairly low in calories, according to the company. A stick bar, for instance, has 75 calories; an “ice cream” sandwich, 150. Can they have a guilt-free place on a dieter’s menu?

“It’s probably better than eating ice cream,” says Judith Ashley, a registered dietitian in the UCLA Department of Medicine. That is, if you can eat one and stop. If not? “You’re probably better off forgetting about desserts during weight loss.”
