Emperor Comforts Victims of Volcano

TOKYO —
A month after Japan’s worst volcanic disaster this century, Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko went to southern Japan on Wednesday to comfort victims.
The couple visited emergency shelters in Shimabara and two other towns near Mt. Unzen on Kyushu Island, about 620 miles southwest of Tokyo. Eruptions of Mt. Unzen last month killed 41 people and forced thousands to leave their homes.
