Anglos and Latinos

Regarding Alex Abella’s letter of June 30: Mr. Abella, your cultural bias is showing.

First you assume that there is a term somehow “opposite” to Latino and Hispanic . There isn’t. There are instead an ever-growing number of arbitrarily defined ethnic groups in this country with any number of arbitrarily assigned labels.

You also assume that Anglo is an acceptable term to describe all white, non-Hispanic Americans. It isn’t. Anglo means of or from England. Your misuse of the term is offensive because it ignores the rich cultural heritage of Europe by implying that all Europeans are English.

If you must insist on such pigeonholing, then let me suggest European-Americans or Euro-Americans . It is the most accurate and least offensive.
