SWAMPED: Once scorned for his theory that man-made chemicals are destroying the Earth’s protective ozone layer, UCI chemistry professor F. Sherwood Rowland now is in such demand that his researchers have trouble squeezing into his schedule. . . . In a recent issue of the Scientist, Rowland’s staff said they must often waylay him at the campus cafeteria to get his attention. Rowland concedes that his lab could produce more than 15 papers a year if he had more time. “The bottleneck is here,” he said, pointing to his cluttered desk.
