Trade Surplus Grows Again: Japan’s trade surplus widened for the sixth consecutive month in June at the expense of Europe and Asia, but the gap with the United States narrowed from a year earlier, the Finance Ministry said. Overall, it rose 8.9% to $7.26 billion, the ministry said. The surplus with the United States fell 18% to $2.64 billion, however. The surplus with the European Community, a cause of growing trade friction, widened for the eighth consecutive month. It was up 48.5% to $2.35 billion.
