War Coverage

Reading your editorial (“When Timeliness Is of the Essence,” July 4) on the Gulf War media policy made me realize how far today’s journalists have strayed from their readers. The major complaint was that the press was unable to report the full story of the war in a timely fashion. Is this the media that glorifies revisionism? A press that would kill to get a scoop and print it without regard for the damage to the military or our country?

The public had an opportunity to witness the exalted members of the fourth estate during the military briefings on CNN. What we saw was a group totally uninformed on military matters, arrogantly interrogating top experts and asking inane questions intended to get them that magical moment on TV for the folks back home.
