Pakistani Police Arrest Pro-Bhutto ‘Terrorists’
Police officers said Sunday that they have arrested 61 members of a guerrilla group headed by Murtaza Bhutto, brother of former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto.
The arrests followed the interrogation of six activists of the Al Zulfikar Organization. They reportedly told police that AZO members were operating in Karachi and the southern Pakistani province of Sind under the guidance of Murtaza Bhutto, who is living in Syria.
Police also said several “AZO terrorists” had infiltrated the police force and that about 600 officers were sacked after a check on their records.
A spokesman for Bhutto’s Pakistan People’s Party said that, ever since she was removed from office last August, activists in the party had been dubbed terrorists.
