Hurt by the recession and slow minicomputer sales, Printronix Inc., a manufacturer of computer printers, reported Monday that it lost $2.9 million for its second quarter, ended June 28.

The loss compares to earnings of $1 million a year earlier. Sales for the quarter were $21.9 million, compared to $29.6 million a year earlier.

Robert Kleist, chief executive of the firm, said the company was hurt by the recession, but he said new product introductions and a cost-cutting program should help the company return to profitability.
