Because of his football commitments, Herschel Walker, who secured a spot on the U.S. bobsled team last week, will have to win a special head-to-head push-off against alternate Tom Allen to make the 1992 Olympic team.
Jim Hickey, executive director of the U.S. Bobsled Federation, said Walker probably will be granted a competition waiver this fall because he is committed to play for the Minnesota Vikings.
Walker and Allen are expected to have a push-off in January. The winner will be on the U.S. team that will compete in the 1992 Olympics at Albertville, France.
