FRIENDLY PROF: UCI’s Jacques Derrida, father of the Deconstruction movement, may be one the world’s great thinkers (Magazine), but colleagues say the French philosopher is a regular Joe with whom you can kibitz. “He’s a charming person and very easy to talk to,” UCI Prof. John Rowe says. “The students were very excited he was coming here, but very apprehensive--’What do I say to this great man?’ . . . I think they found quickly he’s extremely approachable and doesn’t have the academic snobbery you can find in this profession.”
