Aid for Ex-Prisoners

BONN —
The Bonn government plans to pay former political prisoners in what was then Communist East Germany compensation of at least $257 for every month they spent in prison, officials said Tuesday.
They said the compensation scheme, outlined in a draft law to be put before the Cabinet today, will cost the government at least $570 million.
