Fernando Valenzuela struggled with his control in his second start of his four-week stint in the minors, giving up four runs in the second inning as Tulsa beat Midland, 4-2, in a Texas League game Wednesday night at Tulsa, Okla.

Valenzuela, pitching for Midland, gave up eight hits, struck out three and did not walk a batter in five innings, but threw four wild pitches--three in the second inning--and hit a batter. He threw 88 pitches, 50 for strikes, but was hit hard.

“I’m disappointed a little bit,” Valenzuela said. “This game felt better than the last one. My arm felt better. Maybe I tried to overthrow because it felt so good.”

In his first start for Midland, the Angels’ double-A affiliate, against Shreveport five days ago, Valenzuela gave up one run and three hits in five innings. Wednesday night, he gave up a two-out single on his sixth pitch of the game before play was halted for a 27-minute rain delay.
