WORLD IN BRIEF : GERMANY : Hostage Blackmail Threat Is Rejected
Germany said it won’t be blackmailed by threats against two German hostages in Lebanon, rejecting the idea of swapping them for two imprisoned Shiite Muslim terrorists. A group calling itself Holy Warriors for Freedom, believed to be made up of pro-Iranian Shiites, have threatened “extremely negative action” against relief workers Heinrich Struebig, 50, and Thomas Kemptner, 29, unless Germany provides details within 48 hours on the condition of the two prisoners, brothers Mohammed Ali Hamadi, 26, and Abbas Hamadi, 31.
