Soviet high jumper Yelena Rodina tested positive...
From Staff and Wire Reports
Soviet high jumper Yelena Rodina tested positive for steroids in last month’s Europa Cup meet in Frankfurt, Germany, and was stripped of her victory by the European Athletic Assn.
The loss of Rodina’s points for her 6-foot 6-inch jump lowered the Soviet women’s team placement from first to second and gave the title to Germany.
Javelin thrower Emil Tzevatonov of Bulgaria also tested positive and was stripped of his fifth-place finish. Both athletes have been suspended from competition.
