MCC, Display Manufacturers Team Up: The Microelectronics & Computer Technology Corp., a joint research venture that includes many of the nation’s largest electronics companies, announced that it will manage a nine-company consortium of small firms that are developing advanced flat-panel display technologies. The display manufacturers, struggling to survive in a market dominated by huge Japanese firms, recently received a $7.5-million technology development grant from the Commerce Department. Under the leadership of former Defense Department technology chief Craig Fields, MCC is seeking to become a broad umbrella organization within which many different types of cooperative research and development ventures can flourish.
