Muscovites Treated to Free Subway Rides

MOSCOW —
With prices rising higher and higher in the Soviet Union, millions of subway riders in the capital received an unusual surprise Wednesday: a day of free rides on the Metro.
The free rides were sponsored by MMM, a Soviet firm that sells computers and other electronic devices.
Subway fares were recently tripled to 15 kopecks (24 cents at the official exchange rate).
