Australia Stops U.S. in World Youth Baseball

The United States lost for the first time at the World Youth Baseball Championships in Brandon, Manitoba, Canada, falling 3-1 to Australia on Wednesday.

Former Mater Dei player Lionel Hastings gave the United States a 1-0 lead with a home run in the second inning, but Australia scored three runs in the seventh.

The United States and Australia are tied for first in the 10-game tournament with 5-1 records. The United States plays Canada today and top-seeded Cuba on Friday.
