Voter Registration

I take issue with your editorial “Getting Out the Vote Made Simple” (July 28). A democracy’s need is not simply for more voters; it is for better informed voters.

If a citizen is too uninterested or lazy to register to vote, it seems very probable that he will be too uninterested or lazy to become informed about the ballot issues or candidates. Registration is the easy part--perhaps only once in a lifetime. Casting your ballot is the really difficult task.

Your editorial takes hold of the wrong end of the problem. Smart is what we need, not simple.
